What To Eat During Your Ski Holiday

Compare for a moment a beach holiday with a ski holiday. The first is all about lying under the sun and doing practically nothing, whereas the latter is taking advantage of as much light as possible by skiing, walking and snowboarding and other activities that require a lot of energy. Besides, a cold environment makes the body burn more calories.

This of course does not mean that we are allowed to forget our good weight loss habits. On the contrary, it is important to be even more careful, because when we get carried away it is easy to forget how to eat properly.

If you are about to leave for your ski resort, for the whole week or just for the weekend, it is important to know how to eat. In this article I will point out a few tips to follow during your winter holiday.

First of all: forget about drinking alcohol to protect yourself from the cold, it is just a myth and a dangerous one indeed. If you feel warmer after your shot of whiskey or grappa, it is probably because of the bar you are sitting in. Since alcohol is a vasoconstrictor, the effect will be exactly the opposite: you will feel cold.

Do not forget the proteins: in a cold environment our body instinctively craves for carbohydrates, forgetting about proteins, which are essential to keep a good muscular integrity.

If you do not want to waste time in the restaurant at lunch, have several small meals during the day, rather than a proper lunch; bring some energy bars with you.

Speaking of bars, be careful with chocolate. It is true that it gives a lot of energy (about 550 Kcal for 100g), but unless you are planning an Arctic crossing, walking 12 hours per day, lower calories bars, with yogurt or muesli are a better choice.

If you have to sit down and have a proper lunch, stay away from fat foods. It is not hard to find them in a mountain resort, but the myth around them is that they will give you more energy, and make you warmer, but in fact they will just slow down your digestion and make your skiing in the afternoon harder. And of course leave alcohol for after dinner.

Even if your lunch was light, always wait one hour before going back to the ski run.

At dinner, if you had carbohydrates for lunch, balance them with proteins.

Now go have fun!

Create A New Photography Style Using Led Flashlights

Flashlight photography is an emerging technique being pursued by photographers. Using a flashlight in photography allows a photographer a new avenue of imagination and creativity for the photographer. When used correctly, LED flashlights can mimic natural lights and create effects not possible in photo imagining and manipulation software. LED lights allow the light source to be directly controlled by the photographer’s vision. The following are some basic equipment tips and techniques.

The Right Camera
The single-lens reflex camera, or SLR, uses a mirror to accurately reflect to the photographer the same scene that the camera does. The digital SLR, or D-SLR, has the same capabilities as the film SLR, but uses a memory card instead of film. Either type of camera is great for flashlight photography because you can adjust the shutter to a long speed, which is perfect for LED light techniques.

LED Light Tips and Techniques
It is helpful to use a lot of LED lights to get a good quality picture. LED lights tend to be on the small side, and don’t give off a whole lot of light. But don’t worry – LED lights are fairly cheap and you can get dozens of them for just a dollar or so.
LED lights are wonderful hard lighting sources, because the light of LED flashlights is extremely focused. A photographer can use the LED flashlights by placing one or more flat on the ground in order to light up the bottom of an object or some other specific focal object. If you need LED lighting going upward, stack LED lights on top of each other in tripod fashion.

Another way to use LED flashlights is to use self-adhesive Velcro to make a hook strap that wraps around the lens of your camera. Allow two extra centimeters slack for attaching some loop Velcro. Connect the loop side to the hook side with the adhesive side facing outwards. Next, attach the LED lights to the adhesive side one at a time until you cover the entire strap, and voila! You now have your very own LED lighting source for pointing LED light directly at objects, and you hardly spent a dime.

Natural Photography and LED Lights
Combining LED lights with other flashlights, natural light or camera lights can achieve interesting experimental effects. Try using a flashlight held in front of your camera flash with no direct sunlight. The combined lights can add a natural warmness to your photo, making your photo interesting and unique. Another experiment is using different white balances through different colored gels or color filters in front of white LED lights. This technique can simulate several white balances of natural light. LED lights can also be used to “paint” light across an image by using a slow shutter speed and sweeping the LED flashlight across the scene.

Using macro techniques, where the lens to subject distance is much closer than usual, LED flashlights allow the photographer to mimic and/or enhance night shots. This method can allow an aesthetic white balance in spot lighting photography sessions.

T-Shirt For A Friend

When choosing a gift for a friend, it is always recommended to get something personal to that person, a thoughtful, heartfelt gift.

One way of doing this could be to get a t-shirt printed with a design that they have admired such as if they were planning on getting a tattoo done. If the design is placed where they were thinking of having their tattoo this could also be a great way to see if the design will suit them.

Other ideas could be something that your friend absolutely loves such as a character from their favourite video game, a popular cartoon character or movie icon. The list of ideas could also amount to infinity as if you have access to a picture of what you would like to see printed on a t-shirt then this can be transferred onto the t-shirt for you.

The internet provides a wonderful source of information for anything you can think of that you want to look up from animals to zodiac signs and is a definitive source of wonderful pictures that could easily be transferred to a t-shirt.

Offering gifts on someones birthday gives a great sense of well-being as seeing the look on the persons face when they open something that they have wanted so much is an exasperating feeling. There are some superstitions surrounding the celebration of a birthday one being that a persons friends and family would come to visit them at their home bringing with them good fortune and wishes as a person was believed to be vulnerable to ghosts and spirits when a change took place in their life such as on the day of their birth. If guests did bring a gift then this was considered to be further good fortune for the person whose birthday it was.

When shopping for a friends birthday present please ensure that you take your time and choose something appropriate for their special occasion. If having a t-shirt printed ensure the design is the correct one and if unsure nonchalantly keep asking questions or get someone to ask for you so it doesnt leave any hints as to what they are getting.

Try to get a nice card also and write something heartfelt inside. This will ensure that they get a birthday they will truly remember with a personal message in their card and a present that they will love.

Fold the t-shirt up neatly or ask the lady at the store to do it for you so that when they open it the logo is there for them to see instead of it being all crumpled up inside the wrapping paper. Your friend should also see that you have taken time and consideration while selecting and wrapping their present which will make them aware of just how much you care about them.

If the t-shirt is funny then perhaps wrapping a piece of paper with a funny comment written on it might also be a good idea.

Put a smile on their face and show them that you care.

Process Involved in CG Animation

Computer graphic (CG) animation refers to the process of animating or creating an illusion of movement of computer generated imagery and graphics with the help of various software applications. CG animation has evolved considerably in the modern times. Nowadays, 3D CG animation is widely used in almost all the industries; though 2D CG animation is not obsolete.

In this modern time, CG animation is not only used in movies and television programs, but also in short films and commercial advertisements. Moreover, it is also used in various other industries such as architectural industry, automobile industry, video games, space application, scientific research, etc.

Computer animation is a tough task and involves many processes before getting the final animated product. CG animation includes:

1.Rough Sketches – a series of rough sketches are drawn from a vague description of a character, model and background environment. 2.Finalising Art – from the series of rough sketches, a character, model or / and background environment is finalised. Then the artist creates an illustrative art of the character and the world filling in with visual details like colours of landscape, characters, etc.

3.Convert 2D art into 3D – the final two dimensional arts is fed into the computer software applications and transformed into three dimensional models. Then after the transformation, models are given hinges or Avars that will be used by animator to make the character or object move.

4.Actual Animation – a 3D model of a character or an object are choreographed into pre defined movement using various computer graphic animation software applications such as 3dmax, Maya, cinema 4D, Mudbox, Zbrush, etc. This software application creates in between frames that can be adjusted by an animator as necessary.

5.Shading Set and Characters – shader refers to the process of adding colours and textures to the character and sets. With the help of shader software application, customized effects can be applied to the characters or sets such as shining effects, blur effects, etc. 6.Digital Lighting – a digital lighting creates the same effect as real stage lighting. Digital lighting highlights the mood and emotions of the character.

7.Rendering – rendering refers to the processing of all the information of the file that makes up 3D model, colours, sets, digital lighting, etc. into a single frame of animation.

8.Quality Check – after the rendering is done, the animation is almost complete. The only thing remaining is the quality check for glitches if any.

CG animation is a creative process. It takes considerable time to complete an entire project, but once it is done, it will have a mesmerising viewing experience for the viewer.

History’s Strangest Treatments For Depression

Throughout the course of recorded human history depression has been a malady with which people have struggled, suffered and sought relief. Unfortunately, long before the advent of modern medicine early physicians and healers had only their limited knowledge, imagination and gut instinct to work with. But as dedicated helping professionals they were determined to alleviate their patients’ “dejection” or “melancholy.” As such, they devised treatments for depression and other mental illnesses which, today, seem strange, weird and even barbaric.

INSULIN-COMA THERAPY

In 1927 Viennese physician Manfred Sakel sent a diabetic patient who was also a morphine addict into an coma when he accidentally administered an insulin overdose. When she, luckily, came out of the coma she reported her addiction was gone. Apparently, Sakel made the same mistake with another addict who awoke claiming to be cured.

Sakel believed he was on to something and used coma therapy with a reported ninety percent rate of cure among schizohprenics.

The reason for this treatment’s success remains unclear but was phased out due to the danger and death associated with coma.

TREPANATION

Trepanation, which involves boring a hole in the patient’s skull, has been identified as one of the earliest forms of mental health treatment.

Insanity and other unwanted behavioral problems where believed to be the cause of demons living inside the person’s head. Creating a hole in the person’s skull was a way to let demons escape, thereby eliminating suffering from depression.

ROTATIONAL THERAPY

Devised by Erasmus Darwin, the grandfather of Charles Darwin, rotational therapy was used to “spin” people to sleep. Sleep was believed to be the best remedy for any disease, so quickly inducing slumber became the goal of this treatment devised by this not-very-successful, physician, philosopher, and scientist.

Rotational therapy never gained much credibility until an American doctor, named Benjamin Rush, used the dizzying therapy in his psychiatric practice. But instead of trying to induce sleep, Dr. Rush would spin patients in a rotating chair to reduce brain congestion. He believed this to be the cause of their mental illness.

While no longer used to treat mental illness, rotating chairs continue to be used in the study of space sickness and vertigo.

HYDROTHERAPY

Early psychiatrists believed the calming effects of soaking in water could be adapted to treat a wide range of mental health issues. If you were nervous and unsettled, hot, relaxing baths were recommended. If you lacked energy and were tired all the time, you were treated with energizing sprays.

Unfortunately, hydrotherapy left the realm of common-sense and entered the realm of borderline torture when doctors tightly swaddled patients with towels soaked in ice water, or strapped patients into bathtubs, submerging them for hours and even days.

Fortunately, except for relaxing soaks in a hot tub, hydrotherapy treatments for depression have largely been abandoned.
